Rails Product Engineer available for hire
I’ve been building Rails apps since 2013 and doing UI/design work for even longer. These days I help Rails teams around the globe who need someone who can work across the full stack: from Ruby to HTML to CSS to JavaScript.
I work directly in codebases, not in Figma. ViewComponent, Tailwind, Hotwire and custom JavaScript. I’ve probably dealt with whatever you’re working on.
What I Do
-
Product strategy & UI direction
Help define what your product should look and feel like as you scale. Set design standards that work for your team and users. -
User onboarding optimization
Fix the flow from signup to first value. Reduce churn by making sure new users actually understand and use your product. -
Technical debt cleanup
Modernize legacy UI code (e.g. jQuery) that’s slowing down your development team and making new features painful to build. -
Competitive positioning through design
Make your product stand out in a crowded market by looking more professional than the competition. -
Team productivity & design systems
Set up processes and tools so your developers can ship UI changes faster without breaking things.
I work primarily with small teams and early-stage companies who need senior-level product engineering without the full-time hire.
Background
Built my first site in 1997, moved into design work, then got into Rails around 2013. Launched a successful SaaS in 2016, sold it, built a few more. Started Rails Designer in 2024 to share what I've learned and help other teams.
